When ePay is installed, the software will be given an account to run from.
It is up to your organisation to decide what account ePay uses, the engineer will use this account to complete the install.
You can use a pre-existing account, such as a particular user or a domain administrator's account. We recommend an account created specifically for the ePay software.
The service account is an extremely important aspect of the software as it defines the software's privileges, permissions to file paths, permissions to the internet as well as access to folders and files. These are all defined by the service account.
If you need to change the password for your account, these details only need to be changed in windows services for the ePay service. These details are not held elsewhere in the software. However, if you do change this password be sure that this won’t affect any other services or applications also using this active directory account.
The minimum permissions required for the service account are as follows:
1. The account must have permissions to run as a service account on the ePay server.
2. The account must have read/write privileges to the install directory for the Albany ePay software and to all files and folders. The default location will be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bottomline Technologies.
3. The account must has access through any proxy servers or firewalls to submit requests to the internet, specifically to the Bacs website: https://paymentservices.bacs.co.uk.
4. The account must have read/write access to the import file locations where ePay is pulling in the submission data. For information on finding these directories please see article: How can I find where ePay is importing the input file from?
